Our story
Over 40 years in the scrap trade
Garratt's Metals Ltd are scrap metal merchants and industrial dismantlers based at Alvaston Business Park in Nantwich, Cheshire. Family run, plain speaking, and still doing the same job we started doing four decades ago.

From a small yard to a processing site
The business grew out of buying and selling scrap locally around Nantwich. With increased business from all of the major railway companies, the engineering industry and the farming community, the need for room and plant grew with it, and in 1999 we moved to our current, much larger premises at Alvaston Business Park. That move let us install a Harris 800-tonne shear and build up the processing facilities we run today.
Being industrial dismantlers as well as merchants is the part that sets us apart. We do not simply wait for scrap to arrive; we take buildings and plant down, clear sites, cut the steel and recycle the material through our own yard. One company, start to finish, with the recovered value fed back into the price you are quoted.
Compliance is not optional
Ours is an Environment Agency compliant site. End-of-life vehicles are de-polluted before anything else happens to them, hazardous items such as batteries and fluids are handled properly, and every purchase is recorded as scrap metal legislation requires — which is why we ask for photo ID and cannot pay in cash.
The way we deal with people
Prices move daily, so we quote what we are paying today rather than publishing a list that goes stale. If a load is not worth the journey, we will say so. If a grade turns out better than you expected, you get paid for it. Most of our commercial work has come from the same customers for years, which is the only recommendation that really counts in this trade.
