Terms of trade
These are the general terms on which we trade. Anything agreed in writing for a specific job takes precedence over what is set out here.
Who you are dealing with
Garratt's Metals Ltd, Windy Arbour, Alvaston Business Park, Nantwich, Cheshire CW5 6PF. Telephone 01270 611447, email barrie@garrattsmetals.com.
Prices and quotations
Scrap metal prices move daily with the metal markets, so we do not publish rates and any price quoted is the price on the day it is given. Prices for a load are confirmed when the metal is weighed and graded at our yard. Quotations for collection, demolition or dismantling work are given on the information you provide and may be revised if what we find on site is materially different.
Weighing and grading
Loads are weighed on our own weighbridge and scales, and graded by our staff. Mixed or contaminated loads are graded down to reflect what can be recovered. You are welcome to see the weight and the grading, and to ask why a load has been graded as it has.
Identification and payment
We can only buy metal where the required identification is produced, and payment is made by bank transfer or cheque to the person or business named on that identification. Cash payments are not permitted by law. Full detail is on our compliance page.
Title and ownership
By selling metal to us you confirm that it is yours to sell, or that you have the owner’s authority to sell it. Title in the metal passes to us on payment. We reserve the right to decline any load and to report anything we believe to be stolen.
Materials we cannot accept
Some items need special handling or cannot be accepted at all, including asbestos, chemicals, fuels, oils, gas bottles, fire extinguishers, sealed vessels and some electrical items. Please tell us in advance what is in a load; anything not accepted remains your responsibility.
Skips, bins and containers
Skips, bins and containers remain our property throughout the hire. They must be loaded level with the top rail, kept accessible for collection, and used only for the waste agreed. Where a skip stands on a public road, the necessary permit and lighting are the hirer’s responsibility unless we have agreed otherwise in writing. You are responsible for loss or damage to the container while it is on your site, and for anything placed in it that we have not agreed to take.
Site work
For collections, demolition and dismantling you agree to provide safe access, and to tell us about overhead cables, buried or live services, ground conditions, weight limits and hazardous materials. We are not responsible for damage arising from information that was not disclosed to us. Our work is carried out to our own method statements and risk assessments; see also our site safety page.
This website
The information on this website is provided in good faith as general guidance and is not advice for a specific job. Nothing on it forms an offer or a binding quotation. How we handle personal information is set out in our privacy notice.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the law of England and Wales, and the courts of England and Wales have jurisdiction over any dispute. Nothing here affects your statutory rights as a consumer.
